Lemme join with a few builds too, my builds are a bit different from to3phu (especially regarding PvE builds) as I tend to stack elemental reduction, stack beelz and kiel (hence quite high sp cost on my magic-based chars) and use ghost armor a lot (especially ghost 1 on a bryn)

Great builds, now i have something to aim for Smile

What do you use as defense? Ghostring and elemental resistances? Do you have problems with SP? I have with my characters, but they are not max level yet and i use 3 arc angeling with at least 50-60 luck and with monk a can´t use critical explosion, because then i ran out of SP quite quickly. Would it be better on higher level or should i use something else than 3 arc angelings ?

Yea I rely mostly on damage reduction (through both ghost armor / elemental reduction and def) to survive. This is because crits can bypass half of your def, but not elemental reduction. Regarding SP problem, depends on each char that I have SP problem or not. For the above 4, I will have SP problem with sniper if I need to spam Sharpshooting too much, and I will run into SP problem with linker if I use Kahii as a secondary, auto heal. Though such SP problem can be easily solved by SP pizzas, which cost only 5k each, and I tend to make back more zeny than what I spend on pizzas.

Beside damage reduction as mentioned above, each char has its own other ways of defense too, for example:
Biochemist: summon plants to tank, use Hiding to switch mobs' aggro to plants, tons of autocast when attacked, spammable heal from Lif and from Aid Condensed Potion
Ninja: high flee, silence from Raigekisai, heal from vitata card
Linker: high flee, high movespeed and mobility from High Jump, all the "Ka" buffs, heal from vitata
Sniper: auto assumptio from armor card, high movespeed

I have a monk with 2k+ SP and I can keep up critical explosion on him. I won't run outta SP unless I use Asura. But then his survivability sucks Sad All I could do with him is like, bullying mobs 50 lvls below me >.<

My monk build here, note that beside the high raw HP, self heal and semi-decent flee, he kinda has no other way of defending himself. May be trying to run out of mob with Snap could work, but then (idk if this is intended) Snap costs 1 spirit sphere regardless of you having Fury up or not, so it is not that spammable. Also, this monk was made in the days when I was still pretty noob at mouRO, so there are still stuffs that can be corrected:

1. Instead of Orc hero + Marduk + Nightmare cards, you can go for Gemini *2 + Arc Angeling cards
2. Instead of Variant shoes, you can go for Refresher shoes (less hp/sp bonuses, but more regen and def)

So you wouldn´t recommend monk as my first character to solo to max level?

How are other melee classes with solo ability? (rogue, assassin, knight)

Your standard ME priest can easily solo a lot of stuff... Just pull a group, Turn Undead until the guy you're aiming for starts taking big hits, then drop your ME and drop Sanctuary on yourself to stay alive when they get to you... Also, get the Dark Lord & Dark Illusion set, as well as a couple of Berzebub Cards. Don't forget that Int sucks, MATK rules. Get MATK cards and gear, you won't regret it.

Bonus points if you kill a group of mobs simply by spamming TU before it triggers. (yes, it's aoe. even the "turn everything undead" bit)

Say, don't you like the smell of toasted mobs in the morning?

True that, a ME-TU priest can solo pretty well, and the fact that abbey gives nice exp just makes it even better. I never really leveled a ME priest, but I had a friend who did, and he just stomped abbey 3, tons of exp xD

My rogue is kinda stuck at lvl 80+, so I guess it sucks? Or may be it's just me lol

Knight can solo pretty well too, although a bit slow. Get a 2-hander (violet fear or krasnaya), put in enough +%dmg cards depending on the map you are leveling at, and just spam auto attack / bash / magnum break, you can clear mobs pretty fast. Note that all weapon cards get a +50% bonus when socketed in a 2-handed weapon (so for example, a turtle general will give +30% atk instead of +20%. This can be seen from my sniper build, where I get +55% base dmg / crit dmg from just 2 turtle general cards and 2 the paper card), thus they will make your already-high atk from using 2-hander even higher.

Sinx is even better than knight, since you won't even need that much sp (except for casting EDP may be), but playing sinx can be quite boring because it's a ctrl-click char. The idea behind playing sinx is to get either undead or ghost 2 armor, then a sky deleter card to regain hp as you kill mobs (I prefer ghost armor now as Skot nerfed undead armor + bapho already). Put in 2-3 baphomet cards and you can clear mobs in seconds while regaining hp back. So far, sinx is the only class I have that could mob 4-5 MVPs (at lvl ~100) at the same time without dying. Leveling sinx is very fast if you just do MVP invasion in town, and you get good loot / zeny from killing MVPs too.

When I did ME priest, I also used LOV scrolls too add in extra damage lol. Another easy class to level are wizzy. Insane mob control on that class.

I recommend getting at least a max out smith for refining/forging. Refining your own gears will get you far. Plus smith makes decent farmers too, with all the npc'ing you'll be doing overcharge adds up to quite a bit.

So what would you recommend using as a main class to get money, loot and levels, who can decently take down mvps? Is it assassin?

khuongduy004: Those minireviews of knight and assassins are great, would you make them on everyone, so i can make good decision?

It seems i wasted a lot of time on my monk....

I would like something that doesnt have big sp problems, so i could spam skills, was capable of soloing treasure guardians and mvps, just do everything the game can ofer

For taking down mvps, I'd recommend a team of assassin+priest... Just a normal valkyrie can tear a soloing assassin apart, so assumptio, heal and the other buffs really help.

Edit: For gathering cash I simply go Abbey 3 with my priest. Sick amount of loot and exp. Other good place is Glast Heim Prison. If you really want melee, I'd recommend trying out SN. You can get some pretty sick resistances with them, not to mention the ability to heal, bolt, buff, hide, even use a bow and other shit. Pretty nice for soloing... Although, bow attack speed is not really "equal to that of an archer".

Edit 2: Make a merchant alt, and sell all your loot on that alt, as well as buy everything with him. Doesn't need more than the levels to max out Discount and Overcharge. This should be a standard practice, really.

You actually can use any class to buy/sell with NPC for zeny, thanks to Pirate Skeleton card (enable lvl 7 discount) and Armeyer Dinze card (enable lvl 7 overcharge). I just simply get a 2-slotted accessory with those 2 cards and sell/buy directly from my char instead of moving stuffs over to a merchant-based class. For fast farming, wiz would be the cheapest class to gear up, while still can clear mobs fast for loot. Other classes can do a better job, but they would need much more investment.

Classes that can solo take down a mid-high lvl MvP (around lvl 100-120) when at lvl 150, without much effort, would be sinx or biochemist. I believe if played right, a wiz or sage can do MvP too, but since my wiz and sage are pvp-based, I can't tell much if it is that easy to kill MvP with them. Star gladiator would also make a great MvP killer. Priest, Knight and Assassin were already mentioned in previous posts, so I won't repost them here. Just note that mobs with Dispell (Valk Randgris and Ktullanux for example) can screw up a sinx badly, so against those 2, it would be better to pick another class. A priest can be paired with any class to kill MvPs though (I even once did priest + devo crusader + assassin to kill lvl 200+ invasion MvP). But again, when it comes to soloing, sinx and biochemist still come out on the top for me.

Wiz: high crowd-control ability (as said by to3phu), decent and semi-spammable aoe spells. Have access to many different elements so mob's elements won't be a big problem. However one of the best staves a wiz can use is Staff of Destruction, which is a 2-handed (thus you won't be able to get the elemental reduction bonuses from Shell of Resistance or Valk Shield, although you can still use shield cards on it), it requires high refine to reach its full potential, and it also increases sp cost of skills. As I said above, I tend to stack beelz / kiel on my magic-based chars, so my sp cost is really high. Beelz + kiel + staff of destruction + amplify magic = immense sp cost. My wiz can only cast around 10-12 spells continuously before running out of sp (I have 2k sp pool). Energy coat is a good defensive skill, however again, it will put some more pressure on your sp pool. Safety wall is another good defensive skill, but it could be hard to aim if you are having position lag, and it requires you to stand in 1 place to be protected. On the other hand, you can opt for a +9 Lich's Bone Wand instead of Staff of Destruction to reduce the sp cost a bit, but the matk difference from LBW and SoD can be quite great. Normally on leveling maps, I only need 2-3 spells to clear a mob, so a little rest once in a while can solve my sp problem.

Sage: no sp problem at all thanks to Soul Change. Low on sp? Just SC any near-by mob that has full sp and you will regain most, if not all, of your sp in an instant. Very high single-target dmg due to auto-cast from equip and auto spell. Can also clear mobs using Heaven Drive (this spell can hit for a maximum of 20k dmg in just like, 3s, and it can be double-casted for 40k dmg). Safety wall, Wall of fog, Land protector and Magic rod can be combined to give you a huge defensive advantage. However, the down side of sage would be: to maximize its potential, you will need to switch equipment around quite a lot (for example: 4x beelz to cast memorize + auto spell + double casting + energy coat, then switch to imp + high wiz card for high matk output). Of course if you don't need to maximize everything and play with just 1 set of equipment, it is fine too.

Crusader: very limited in term of offense. The best PvE skill would be Grand Cross since it can hits 30k dmg at most in an aoe. But this skill is a double-edged sword, without proper equipment (holy resistance gears and regen gears), you will find yourself committing suicide faster than killing mobs. Grand Cross is also fixed with holy element, so you are semi-useless against holy mobs. However, in places like nifheim or cursed abbey, GC can get you quite a good amount of exp in a short time. Crusader also has great survivability with Auto guard, mdef boost from Endure, and Heal. On the other hand, a sacrifice - devo crusader is also a great build, however it is not recommended for soloing. You can have like 90k+ hp with 15k hp regen every 10s, and can heal. Best paired with another char which is good at killing but lack defenses.

Smith: my smith is still being built atm, I can say that it also lacks self-defense (unless you count on Hammer Fall to stun the mobs), and offensive ability is limited to Cart Termination most of the time. This skill can drain your zeny pretty fast, unless you have enough int for the passive part of Unfair Trick to work (this case won't happen if you are at low lvl trying to get more exp...). And if you ever think of activating Unfair Trick to get rid of the zeny cost, then it means -50% dmg and +100% sp cost for the skill. Auto-attack could be an option to preserve zeny / sp, but then you are only good at killing single targets, and even then, your lack of regen means you will need to stop for a rest pretty often.

Alchemist: can solo almost everything, even ghost MvP like gloom (although this can take a while). Biochemist technically has everything you want: can tank and dmg with plants (lvl 150 plants have VERY HIGH HP), can support with double spammable heal (Aid Condensed Potion and Lif's Healing Touch) and Full Chem Protection, can do AoE dmg with Demonstration and Summon Marine Sphere, can do single target dmg with AD. The only downside with biochemist is that, you need catalyst for all the skills. But I tend to make like 2k of each bottles and throw those into my cart before going out, so catalyst has never been a problem to me. In case you are wondering how to kill a ghost mvp, then here is my answer: marine sphere and demonstration deal fire dmg. Just summon plants so they could help you to tank, then spam marine sphere on demonstration (to guarantee immediate explosion) until the MvP is dead. Also I have no sp problem with my biochemist because there is no need to stack cards like kiel or beelz. Most of the time I just need to summon plants and hide until the mobs are cleared.

Hunter: idk if anyone ever uses trap for PvE, but I don't... Simply because there are too many mobs to use ankle snare on, and damaging + status traps are just pale in comparison with Sharpshooting spam / auto attack with auto blitz. Can have decent dps with high aspd and auto blitz. Can clear mobs with Sharpshooting. But sp can be a problem if you wish to spam skills. Hunter, similar to wiz, also doesn't have elemental weakness thanks to all the elemental arrows available, so against any MvP, you can still dish out decent dmg. However this class has no real defense beside high movespeed (to kite the mobs) and may be some autocast (like I picked High Priest card for auto assump).

Bard/Dancer: I fail at building these classes, especially for soloing PvE. It could be said that this is due to their nature being a party-oriented, supportive class. These 2 classes don't really have any defense (except for may be dancer's Slow Grace), and their offense is limited to Arrow Vulcan, which isn't that spammable compared to other classes' aoe skills, and also has a very unreliable aoe path. Even when you pair Bard's Bragi with Arrow Vulcan, it still has some significant delay and cast time, so mostly mobs will kill you before you could clear them >.<

Rogue: as mentioned above, I just fail at lvling my rogue xD But this class actually can have decent offense and defense. Reject Sword can work as a 50% physical dmg reduction if you remember to recast it all the time, decent flee for being a thief-based class helps. As for offense, you can copy any skill that suits your playing style, or an aoe spell to help with clearing mobs. Even without copying anything, Raid is a good spammable aoe skill too. I have never tried doing MvP with rogue so I have no idea how well this class would work in that situation though. If you want to have the best single-target dmg possible, a good skill to copy will be Beast Strafing. Beast Strafing's dmg formula is heavily based on str. And using bow + raising str = you can have high aspd, high dmg, and this aspd + dmg, when put into Beast Strafing's formula, will yield very high dps, possibly hitting 9999 per skill, especially when you can use elemental arrow to gain elemental advantage. While lvling, rogue can have some sp problem though, because spamming Reject sword + Raid can drain your mini sp pool quite fast.

Monk: despite lacking self-defense, I believe this class still has more surviability than smith, because you at least can self heal or move out of trouble using Snap. But on the offense side, you don't have a reliable spammable aoe skill to clear mob, and if you use dual fists like I do, there is no way to use shield nor shield card, and you won't be getting +50% card bonuses like other 2-handed weapons either. At least I don't have sp problem at lvl 150 unless I use asura, but then I don't remember if sp problem existed when I was lvling. Soloing MvP with monk is possible though, as you can clear mobs with asura, then combo the mvp to death. You also can count on monk's medium flee as a defense too, but it is still more unreliable than elemental reduction in my opinion.

Linker: can have sp problem if Kahii is up, but this class has the most awesome defensive skill set in the game in my opinion. Kaupe reduces incoming physical dmg's HIT by 60%, and with a high enough flee (please look back at my linker for the flee), you can reduce most physical attack dmg down to nothing (iirc, MouRO has an atk penalty if your hit is too low compared to the enemy's flee). Against magic, you have Kaite, and Kahii can work like a delayed 50% dmg reduction, at the cost of a lot of sp. In case of extreme unluckiness, Kaizel can resurrect you with 70% hp, and grant you 2s Kyrie Eleison, which is enough for you to run / jump out of the mob, recast all the Ka- skills, and come back for revenge. This is also the reason why I stack so many +movespeed equipment on my linker. Break Fall is also a free 20% evasion against ranged / magical attack. On the other hand, the offensive ability of a Linker is not to be taken lightly. Having access to 7-element Esma, a Linker can guarantee elemental advantage on almost any attack, and Esma is pretty spammable too. Even though the aoe is small, Esma is still deadly when spammed with the correct element.

Star Gladiator: I don't use my star glad that much anymore, but all I remember about star glad is: very high single-target dmg because of all the Hatred buffs and element buff from Warm Wind, and thanks to this, you can get 5-7k dmg per hit on any MvP with ease. High aspd from Union buff. Can get very high flee on Day of the Moon, and no real sp problem. Star glad's defenses normally lie in: keeping distance with MvP's mobs by using Warmth skills, jump out of trouble with High Jump, similar to Linker, star glad has Break Fall as a free 20% evasion, and you can stack arc angelings on star glad to boost up the regen, decent hp if a Tao Gunka card is used. This is a class whose strength changes depending on the situation (different mobs and days). But in the best scenario possible, it can be a real beast.

Gunslinger: another class with both high single target and aoe dmg, although also lacks self-defense. For PvE, you will have 2 weapon choices: pistol or gatling gun. Pistol means lower dmg, lower aspd, but enable you to use Desperado, the best aoe skill a gunslinger can have (can be spammable if you stack enough kiel). Gatling gun takes away your ability to use Desperado, but the gatling gun exclusive buffs means your Rapid Shower can do a lot more dmg (higher atk and aspd). Even though this class doesn't have a wide-array of elements to choose from like wiz, sage, linker or star glad, the Poison, Dark, Ghost elements from Magical Bullet, and Holy from silver bullet are normally enough to take down most mobs. Gunslinger can run into sp problem though, and since it has no self-defense beside raw hp, Asprika's lvl 1 teleport (which brings you to a random spot on the same screen) can be your best friend!!! A fun fact about my gunslinger: we once had a lvl 230 biolab MvP summoned in Geffen, and because no char could get close to it before getting killed, me and to3phu decided to use gunslingers to kill it. What we did was: equipped osiris card, lured mvp to geffen's spawn point, then kept respawning -> spamming 9999 rapid shower -> die -> repeat xD It was fun, and that MvP gave my leeching sage enough exp to get from lvl 141 to 146.

Ninja: can have 3 builds: magic, throw shuriken, or melee. However, everyone has agreed on 1 thing: magic ninja deals the most dmg, and still can have high survivability from the spells' statuses. Even if you need to be in the middle of the mobs for your spells to hit, Raigekisai's silence is invaluable, since a silenced mob means it can only do neutral dmg through normal attack, and with my ninja's equipment set, neutral atk isn't a threat to me. Suiton (which reduces enemy's agi) and Busin-jyutsu (which reduces both incoming dmg and physical dmg's hit rate) serve as good defensive skills too. If you encounter a holy monster that resists all your spell damage, you can always use Final Strike + Heal (from vitata) combo to finish it off (my build still offers decent Final Strike dmg as I do try to get atk and hp too, this ninja used to kill lvl 300 Valk Randgris and lvl 300 Ifrit with a single priest's support). My ninja doesn't suffer from heavy sp problem like wiz because: I can use water dagger on ninja to regen sp as I kill mobs (can be done on wiz too, but you will be sacrificing a lot of matk for this), ninja's spells often have much shorter cast / delay compared to wiz, so there is no need to stack as many beelz / kiel, and ninja's defensive buff, busin-jyutsu, doesn't cost as much sp as wiz's energy coat when you get hit. Ninja can do MvP pretty well too, just remember to cast Suiton, keep Busin-jyutsu buff up, and spam all your spells on the MvP.

Super Novice: I have never played one, so no comment on this class xD

Meh this was a long reply @@ I hope it can be useful, and if any of you have further input, just feel free to add it in.

Well, here you can play SN as a melee as well. He sort of is a mage, but since he no longer has insta-cast here, he sort of sucks compared to the more advanced casters... And yes, he can hold his own decently, just make sure you have assumptio card and kit for as much elemental resistance as you can. I can get my SN to 70%+ elemental resist on "vanilla" servers, so it shouldn't be impossible here either. Oh, and do make sure you have decent amount of both SP and HP.

For melee with SN, I'd normally recommend getting INT, AGI and VIT and auto-casting 'quips and stuff, but I don't think normal logic applies on mou, so just go for ATK.

Bit more on what Khuonng said.

For wizzy you can slot in shield card on Staff of Destruction since weapon card for magic is quite limited. (and iirc SoD has 2 slots here)

For Knights I usually just have my trusty wind forge to beat the crap out of mobs, but I have a weapon and armor for almost any situation. They are the most versatile class IMO. Has the high 3s, hp, damage, and speed. They are the bread n butter of all classes.

For Pallies, you can wear holy armor to reduce GC damage since damage to self is indeed, holy.

For smith I personally do straight up CT or MAMO everything to death. I don't care about the cost since I will usually make up for it, but you may have to be a bit more funded for that lol. Otherwise I heard Bapho card is pretty decent on smith, though I never tried it myself. The only problem with smith is the lack of range. Seriously, getting stun lock is annoying and the only range option you have is throw tomahawk. My soultion is flame skull/gram card, and just freeze the fucker to deal with later.

For creator if catalyst really a problem you can use that one head card that removes gem requirements for spell. Here it just has a chance of not using the catalyst item at all. You can stack it, but I would not use more than 1.

For Bards and Dancer I like to use Angra for a battle bard/dancer. You get best of both worlds. you can use DS for single target, while singing/dancing and use Vulcan. With the right arrow you can still dish out great damage.

For SN I like to go magic with holy light build. Extremely powerful, no cast time, delay base off attack speed. Stack a ton of int/luk/agi and watch them 9k pop.

If turn undead target a non-undead then it will cast a chance changing their element to undead. The aoe damage will still hurt everything around it even though it isn't undead. So roll that crt~

200 INT, rest of your points on attaining max ASPD with staves and whatever you want (except DEX).

Holy Stick, BG set, two Cookies and as many MATK-boosting cards as you can muster. Don't mind the SP cost or cast time increases.

Link yourself. Go around and Holy Light everything. It's inefficient, you can only hit one target at a time and you're kind of squishy, but it's also a guaranteed 9999 with no cast time or delay on most enemies, including Holy elemental ones (as long as it's not Holy 3 or 4).

EDIT : Even without Link this should be a very, very respectable DPS build against everything except Holy mobs.

What would you guys recommend keep Glittering jacket with ghostring and sky deleter or take brynhildr with ghostring, without the hp regen card, which is quite amazing?

And what weapon would you choose for autocast sage?

I kinda dislike ghostring card myself. Would much rather use an elemental armor and get ghost 2 plus free slot or straight up ghost 2 with jacket.

For sage depends what are your needs, but books are prob better choice since it has higher attack speed. For shit n giggles, a forge water dagger may be a decent choice.

My sage uses Diabolus robe (to combo with Diabolus ring) with Garm and Marc, works pretty well for me =o
