Guild Wars 2

Post by Skotlex on 30/8/2012, 08:48

First of all, no worries: I have no time to play another MMORPG currently.

But I've been hearing about this game for a few months now, and after reading the feature set I can say with a certain degree of confidence: if I ever start playing another MMORPG, it would be this. It seems to have set down the right philosophy for gaming (that is, very similar to my own philosophy when creating MouRO).

There's auto-delevelers for when you want to help lower level people, you can customize your look (not through disguising, but by swapping attributes/traits from one gear to another, and dying). And there's the concept that every class should be self-reliable (meaning everybody has access to some way of healing, doing damage and tanking).

I'd say the only things missing from MouRO to make it a great game are @diff and random monsters/skills :P

Anyway, I decided to make a topic in case anyone else is playing this game, so they can give their input/opinion about it.

So, if someday MouRO closes down, now you know where to go next >_> (because, frankly, RO itself is old as a mummy by now!)

Yeah, out of all the mmorpgs out right now, or in the near future, GW2 seems to be the most appealing. The B2P payment module is also cheaper, considering you play it for more than a few months, compared to subscription based mmorpgs.

I wish people would stop derailing threads.

I have a few friends who certainly want to go back and playing MouRO, the main issue I have is lack of time to finish updating the server, and I have to fix the fact that the client does not work on my machine T_T

GW2 just seems like a good bet, otherwise. You have to realize that RO in general is dying. It's not even easy to find an updated, well-seeded RO client! The Miruku download I was using has not updated in over nine months! Sigh, it seems rA development is slow as well.

For better or for worse, it does look like general effort placed on RO has gone down the drain in the last year.

So it'd be wise to know there are other alternatives out there to keep your eyes on.

Even Gravity hasn't been putting much effort into RO. Renewal was a disappointing mess (other than the Mechanic and the ability to drop thermonuclear bombs at people, that is). So yeah, interest in RO seems to be going down too.

On topic : Guild Wars 2 has taken a friend away from me. T-T He only ever plays it now, 24/7. But if it's anything like Guild Wars 1, which was pretty damn good, then it's understandable.

Obviously Ragnarok is a dead game already. I don't think at all that this thing will get any great update anymore (in therms of new content). The remaining servers must care only to keep great samples of the game working for the nostalgy, for the Eternal players, and for the memories of this game.

Edit: Of course that... if someone takes the responsibility to create new content to the game, well... that would be nice too, actually better.

Well, i pre-ordered guild wars 2 and got 3-day headstart with some of my friends and its been a fucking blast to play Smile
And speaking of auto-deleveling, yes, game does level scaling based on area, so if you happen to go to starting areas, you wont be overkilling everything you see, and it feels challenge.
And if you want pvp or do little world vs. world, bam youre lvl 80 when doing those, and when youre done, and go back to world, youre back to whatever level you were.
What else should i share info about this game?

I read about all that already. Basically, just tell us if the game is as fun as it seems to be.

The whole skill system and how skills combine to make additional effects seems like a fresh way into encouraging ad-hoc team work.

If I remember right, the game also auto-scales difficulty based on the number of players so that it is always a challenge, and it should encourage partying?

Well, technically game is F2P, you need to buy retail box or that serial code but after that, its free to play

Rest of the game? Well, how about you turn over to angry joe:

It is not technically F2P. You don't call the regular PC games F2P, do you?

On another note, I'm trying out Aion right now. Really standard mmorpg so far, with no new features I haven't already seen in other games.

So, in Guild Wars, you couldnt jump, and some people made a fuzz about it and stupid "WoW is better cuz it has jump on it".

GW2 devs put jumping in this, and also some jumping puzzles!
Here's one of them.

At end of these jumping puzzles, theres chest of loots Very Happy

Also, im doing a dance from success Very Happy
